The Aviation Photography of Darryl Gibbs.

Darryl Gibbs - Aircraft photographer, Aviation historian and Aviation journalism.

A bit about Darryl.

Darryl lives in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. He has been photographing aircraft for over twenty years now and has had a number of his photographs published and has also supplied written material to several aviation magazines as well as the general print and electronic media.

Darryl has been interested in aviation since childhood and is or has been involved in numerous aviation related organizations. In the past he has carried out thousands of hours work assisting at different organisations including the Moorabbin Air Museum , CNAPG and RAAF Museum. For over twenty years he has been a member of the Aviation Historical Society of Australia (AHSA). He is also a member of the South Australian Aviation Museum, a donor to the Temora Aviation Museum (on behalf of the CNAPG to the Grey Nurse Wing) and he was one of the founding members of the Clyde North Aeronautical Preservation Group and is still heavily involved as one of the directors. He also founded the Vintage and Warbird e-mail list.

In a professional sense, he was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force for nearly 18 years as an aircraft technician and during this time was involved in the restoration and maintenance of several historic aircraft including a Zero at Wagga Wagga, Demon at Richmond and several years working with the RAAF Museum at Point Cook. Other postings also included at stint at RAAF Publication Unit followed by a posting to the RAAF School of Technical Training at Wagga Wagga.

Darryl discharged from the RAAF in early 2003, to take up a job with TAFE's National Aviation Training School of Excellence (NATCOE) which is under contract to the RAAF to work with RAAFSTT to train aircraft technicians. Darryl works in a wide range of areas in the school ranging from teaching things such as basic hand skills and OH&S, various aircraft maintenance subjects, and also flightline training which includes things such as aircraft marshaling, aircraft ground handling and safety in the flightline/airfield environment, which is handy knowledge to have while wandering around photographing aircraft.

A wide range of his work may be found throughout this site and you can also see some examples on the following few pages.
